Tapuya - Software for Static Correction

Variations in elevation and thickness of the weathering layer introduces irregularities in arrival time of seismic waves for different receivers over the spread. To correct these irregularities, it is necessary to carry out special treatments on seismic data in order to place the source and receiver as if it were on a flat surface, thus eliminating the distortions in the time of arrival of seismic waves in the receptors caused by the topography and by the thickness of the weathering layer. This treatment made in the seismic data is called static correction.

Flamoil uses its own software called tapuya for static correction. The methodology utilised combines shallow seismic refraction interpretation with the seismic refraction tomography.

The Tapuya is composed of three modules:

tempo-primeira-quebra

Identification of the first breaks.

The program determines automatically or semi-automatic in the reflection seismograms the time of the first breaks.

interpretacao-velocidade-camada

Interpretation of first break time curves vs. offset

Using the first break time curves vs. offset Tapuya uses the TABC method and the Intercept time to determine the thickness and velocity of the layers that make up the weathered layer, thereby generating an initial model for this layer.

tomografia-sismica-refracao

Seismic Refraction Tomography

Tapuya reverses the data of first break (achieved in module 1) to obtain an accurate model for the weathered layer, allowing to calculate the static corrections for shots and receivers independently.
